Reducing our impact on the Environment

EnvironmentalBinding Site's environmental policy outlines our commitment to limit the overall impact our processes have on the environment.

Initiatives begun in 2007 have saved 43,000 plastic cups and 1000 plastic water dispenser bottles per year. All paper, card and plastic used at The Binding Site Group Ltd is now recycled - in the 6 months to April 2008 the amount collected was 27.5 tonnes, equivalent to 25 small hatchback cars!

Small Hatchback CarEveryone at our head office in Birmingham, UK is trained on our Reduce, Reuse & Recycle policy. Introduced in 2007, we have achieved much in a short time and remain committed to further improvements.

Reduce Electricity. Initiatives include installation of secondary glazing and false roofs, switching off lights and equipment when not in use and improving efficiency of cold storage facilities.
Reduce Paper Used. Using recycled paper sources for packaging and promotional literature. Sending documents by e-mail. Printing and copying double sided where possible.
Reduce Plastic Used. Simply by asking staff to bring in a glass from home we reduced the quantity of plastic drinking cups used per year from 61,000 to 18,000. Changing to a drinking water purification system fed by tap water saved 1000 plastic water dispenser bottles.
Reduce Car Journeys. Binding Site are members of local car share and travelwise schemes. An increasing number of staff now cycle to work or work from home 1 or 2 days a week.

Reuse Plastic. Bottles and bags are reused wherever possible.
Reuse Paper. Any useable scrap paper is utilised as note paper or made into small pads instead of buying sticky-back notes.

Recycle Paper. We recycle all paper (including junk mail and magazines) and cardboard.
Recycle Plastic. All types of plastic used in production processes, drinking cups etc. is recycled or returned to suppliers.
Recycle glass. Suppliers collect for reuse or recycling.
Recycle steel and aluminium cans, aluminium foil, batteries and printer cartridges. Collection bins are provided on site.
Recycle organic waste - even tea bags, coffee grounds and fruit peelings are collected and composted at home by staff volunteers! We have also introduced fair-trade items in the staff tea-room.
